Íèêîëàé Ùåòüêî Nickky Nick Shchetko Hi there! I am Nick "Nickky" Shchetko (Mikalai Shchatsko) from Belarus and it`s my pleasure to welcome you to my "web lair" – Nickky.com! It`s a bit bloggish web-playground – place for my webdev-experiments and some useful/useless information.

I`m an ICT-journalist, editor, analyst, developer (Mobile, Web), translator, local ICT market expert... well, yes. And not only! Though I have graduated from Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (Radio Engineering), my field of interest lies where ICT meets media (some people call it "new media"). I posess diverse social media experience – from FIDOnet to Google+. I am also keen on mobile development (Android) and web-development (LAMP).

Intro

Full-featured English-version of the site is yet to be created. Though, you could either check some blog posts here in English or use Google Translate for browsing the site to get at least general idea of what`s in there.

Education

Graduated from Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics Minsk, Belarus (2002-2007). Bachelor degree within Engineering. Department of Radio Electronics, major – Radioinformatics. Estimated GPA: 4.56 of 5. Graduation project: 5 of 5 (A+).

Additional qualification: technical translator (Student`s Translation Bureau), Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics. Estimated GPA: 5 of 5 (A+).

Have been working as a journalist for 10 years, mainly – ICT field. Have 8+ years of web-programming experience, though not on commercial projects. The short list of my employers and positions is as follows:

I`m native speaker in Belarusian and Russian. I speak English fluently.

Advanced experienced PC user: DOS (3.3-7.0), MS Windows (3.1–Seven), Microsoft Word (95-2007), Excel (95-2007), PageMaker (6), Macromedia Dreamweaver (MX), able to code HTML manually. Adobe Photoshop (3.0-CS5), Corel Draw (7.0-12). MS PowerPoint (XP-2007). Basic repair, network administration skills. Microsoft Visio (2003). The Bat, Microsoft Outlook. MathCAD (2001), Deja Vu X... On programming side: Java/Android, PHP, Delphi-Pascal, C, Visual Basic (obsolete), HTML/CSS/Javascript. Vast experience on new media: from BBSes to blogs/microblogs/socialnetworks

I can play a guitar, take pictures (photo reporting). On sports side I`m a good volleyball and quite strong table tennis player.

I can drive a car (since 2009), full driving license holder.

Golden Keyboard 2010 Award February, 2011: Successfully passed GRE (vocab: 560/800, quantitative: 750/800, analytics: 3.5/6) and TOEFL IBT (112/120) certifications.

July, 2010: Was awarded diploma by Belarusian ICT association “Belinfocom” for active covering of ICT-market development in Belarus

July, 2010: Was awarded "Golden keyboard 2010: the best IT-journalist in Belarus" - tribute from professional society

March, 2008: Successfully completed course on “The art of public speech” by Belarusian Institute of public relations

September, 2008: Successfully completed seminar on “Managing death-march projects” by Edward Yourdon

December, 2007: Was awarded diploma by Beltelecom (largest telecom operator in Belarus) for “professionalism and active promotion of telecommunication technologies”

November, 2006: Successfully completed the workshop "Sustaining critical competencies: applying the people capability maturity model (P-CMM)" by Bill Hefley

November, 2006: Successfully reported at a conference “Higher technical education: problems and development ways” in BSUIR

November, 2006: Took second place in "IT Marketing challenge 2006" ("Marketing in IT") in Belarus

April, 2006: Awarded with honorary diploma by Belarusian state university of informatics and radioelectronics (BSUIR) for successful participation in 42-nd BSUIR student conference

I was born in 1984 in Minsk, Belarus. Married. No bad habits. Calm and friendly person, good team player.

I enjoy music (both playing myself and listening to), reading, taking pictures, travelling & meeting people. Other hobbies include canoeing, volleyball, table tennis.
